Webinar: Webinar Race/Ethnicity Data for AANAPISI and HSI Leaders at UC

Jointly hosted by the Institutional Research and Academic Planning department and the Graduate, Undergraduate, and Equity Affairs department at the UC Office of the President, this webinar (hosted on March 26, 2024) provides insight into UC's race/ethnicity data collection and reporting processes. Understanding this data is crucial for UC campuses engaged in the Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) and the Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander Serving Institution (AANAPISI) initiatives.

Webinar: A Blueprint for Becoming a Hispanic-Serving Research Institution (HSRI) System

This webinar will highlight key themes from a UC-HSI research report focused on developing a blueprint for UC to further establish itself as a a Hispanic-Serving Research Institution (HSRI) System. The three authors of the report will discuss different conceptualizations of servingness within UC, highlight key recommendations, and engage in a conversation with audience members.

Webinar: Caminos al Éxito: Exploring Servingness within UC Academic Policies and Support Programs

In celebration of the upcoming release of the UC HSI Initiative Research and Practice Brief, we hosted this webinar on November 15, 2023. The webinar facilitated an interactive discussion with the authors of the brief series, providing them a platform to share innovative practices and impactful research taking place across the UC system in the context of its classification as a Hispanic Serving Research Institutions (HSRI) system.

This webinar featured an engaging discussion with our brief series’ authors where they shared innovative practices and impactful research happening across the UC system as it relates to the UC’s status as a Hispanic Serving Research Institutions (HSRI) system.  

Conceptualizing: Servingness at Hispanic-Serving Research Institutions (HSRIs)

On November 17, 2022 several members of the UC HSI Initiative advisory board presented research findings from a year-long scholarly project focused on servingess within and throughout the UC at the Association for the Study of Higher Education (ASHE) annual conference in Las Vegas, Nevada. The interactive symposium was titled, Conceptualizing Servingness at Hispanic-Serving Research Institutions (HSRIs), and drew a high attendance of scholars, practitioners, and advocates in the field.

Webinar: Toward a Culture of Servingness: How the UCs Embrace their Past, Present, and Furure as an HSI System

On January 13, 2022, the UC HSI Initiative hosted a webinar on the inaugural UC HSI Initiative Research and Practice Brief Series. This session featured a discussion with our brief series’ authors where they shared innovative practices and impactful research happening across the UC system as it related to the UC’s status as a Hispanic Serving Research Institutions (HSRI) system.

Webinar: UC's Role as a Hispanic-Serving Research Institution

On May 5, 2021, the UC HSI Initiative hosted a webinar presentation of key findings from the initiative's first report, "La Lucha Sigue: The Role of the University of California as a Hispanic-Serving Research Institution." Panelists discussed UC's unique role as a research-intensive, public HSI system in the broader HSI conversation.

UC HSI Campus Showcase 2019, Hosted by UC Santa Cruz

The campus showcase provided a deeper look at UC Santa Cruz and how the campus developed an approach and a series of interventions to become a racially just HSI. The showcase was created so that participants could explore UC Santa Cruz's successes and challenges and could think collectively about what it means to be a UC HSI campus. Presentations included an overview of the UCSC HSI framework, HSI grant-funded projects in the areas of STEM, and sessions on advising, Transfer Pathways and racial equity analyses, as well as evaluation strategies to measure impact.

UC HSI Research Panel and Presentation at the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) Annual Conference 2019

At the 2019 annual HACU Conference held in Chicago, several members of the advisory board presented as a panel on HSI-related research and best practices at their home campuses. Presenting campuses included UC Merced, UC Davis, UC Irvine and UC Santa Cruz.

UC HSI Annual Retreat 2018, Hosted by UC San Diego

In November 2018, the second UC HSI Annual Retreat was held in San Diego. Highlights of the meeting included presentations by leading higher education scholars, such as Gina Garcia, and the strengthening of communication and collaboration with advocacy groups (e.g., HACU and the Campaign for College Opportunity).

UC HSI Annual Retreat 2017, Hosted by UC Riverside

Through the Office of Diversity and Engagement, the UC Office of the President hosted the first systemwide UC Hispanic-Serving Institutions retreat in 2017. The two-day event featured panel discussions with leading scholars in the field of higher education and members of advocacy organizations (e.g., HACU) and the U.S. Department of Education. All 10 UC campuses were represented at this meeting. This event was the catalyst for formally launching the UC HSI Initiative.
