UC impact in California regions

UC's regional impact maps illustrate the myriad ways that the University of California is present in the fourteen regions of California. These maps demonstrate the economic, employment, and social impact of UC across all of California.

The fourteen map documents each have four thematic maps and several tables of summary data across two pages each.

The four maps on each document show:

  • the distribution of UC employees color coded by job category
  • the distribution of UC undergraduates color coded by Pell grant award amount classes
  • The distribution of UC Health-trained professional color coded by practice type
  • The distribution of UC locations*
    • campuses
    • UC PRIME and patient care sites
    • Community-based programs grouped by category
    • UC national labs
    • UC hospitals
    • UC ANR's Research and Extension Centers and Cooperative Extension offices
    • UC Natural Reserves

*not all categories appear in every region


The tables on the first page of each document show:

  • the overall economic impact, employment impact and tax revenue impact of UC in the region.
  • the number and cumulative annual payroll of UC employees in the region, including the percent that are federally funded
  • the number of UC retirees and beneficiaries and their cumulative annual benefits living in the region
  • the number of UC alumni living in the region
  • the number of UC Health-trained professionals licensed in the region summarized by practice type 
  • the number of Medicaid visits provided by UC in the region
  • the number of undergraduate students in the enrollment class of 2025 summarized by financial aid counts and award amounts that applied to UC from the region, including the number of Pell grants awarded in amount classes
  • the number of UC locations summarized by type

The tables on the second page summarize statistics specific to campuses (if they are in the region) or the UC system. These are statewide impacts. They show:

  • the overall statewide economic impact, employment impact and tax revenue impact of a UC campus and/or the UC system
  • the total number of UC employees and retirees/beneficiaries with their cumulative annual payroll/benefit by campus and/or the UC system, including the percent that are federally funded
  • Federal research award amounts summarized by federal agency for a campus and/or the UC system
  • the number of undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in AY25-26 at a campus and/or the UC systems
  • the number of undergraduate UC grants, Cal grants, and Pell grants, with award amounts at a campus and/or the UC system
  • the number of undergraduate and graduate alumni for a campus and/or the UC system


The second page also includes the companies and institutions that employee significant numbers of UC alumni in the region.
