UC’s technology commercialization system has developed into a distributed institutional network of ten university campuses which operate under a common policy framework and share resources. However, each campus office functions relatively independently of the others. Their common goal, together with Innovation Transfer Operations, is to aid the campus research, education and public service missions. Each office performs some or all of the following tasks: commercializes UC intellectual property rights; facilitates research collaborations with industry; advances UC entrepreneurship; protects UC’s interests by managing risk; promotes economic growth in California. Direct contact between campus technology managers and researchers actively engages UC inventors in the technology commercialization process.
