Sean Gailmard

Sean Gailmard is a professor of political science at the University of California, Berkeley, where he holds the Herman Royer Professorship in Political Economy. Professor Gailmard is the Chair of the University Committee on Academic Freedom (UCAF) of the UC systemwide Academic Senate, and a past chair of the Committee on Academic Freedom of the UC Berkeley Academic Senate. He is the Faculty Director of the Berkeley Liberty Initiative, an externally funded center at UC Berkeley for the promotion of open dialogue on campus and in higher education. His research focuses on American political institutions, particularly the executive branch and its development over time. He is the author of several influential books in political science. He received his BS from Indiana University, and PhD in economics and political science from California Institute of Technology.
