DESCRIPTION

Sonya will conduct a secondary analysis of the Healthy Communities Study (HCS), an observational study of over 5,000 children ages 4 to 15 years recruited from 130 communities across the U.S. in 2013-2015. She will examine household food insecurity, measured using a two-item food insecurity screener, in relationship to children’s adiposity, dietary intake and dietary behavior. She will also examine whether community programs and policies related to nutrition and physical activity are an effect modifier in the relationship. This study stands to add importantly to our understanding of the impact of household food insecurity on children’s health and dietary behaviors.
