Salma’s project will provide a preliminary understanding of how food produced in California relates to energy use, and how food products impact demand for fossil fuels. While it is not a full life cycle analysis, the data obtained from this proposal could form a basis for future work that also takes into account the material, water and land use of food products and their interaction with benefits such as the resulting nutritional value or level of food security afforded by different food products.
