Broadway Community Center

The UCOP Broadway Community Center in Oakland is a welcoming, flexible space that supports connection, collaboration and wellness. It features comfortable co-working space with UC and community spirit, including some donated items and décor from various UC campuses, and a book-lending program that will begin in October.

Community Center Elements:

  • Staff Community Library (Books available for checkout in October 2025): Enjoy a curated collection of books authored by UC alumni, staff, and faculty, as well as titles recommended by UCOP Employee Resource Groups. The collection also includes professional development resources, including titles selected by the UCOP Equity, Diversity and Inclusion department and the Operational Excellence COE, along with a UC Press–curated selection.

Books will be available for checkout starting in October 2025. Until the checkout system is in place, please enjoy browsing but do not remove books from the Community Center.

  • Community and staff-curated art exhibits (program in development): Artwork in the community spaces reflects the creativity and diversity of both Oakland and UCOP. Current pieces feature staff-submitted photography of UC campuses, local landmarks and the broader Oakland community. A rotating staff art program is under development, which will allow employees to display their own work in the space and in spaces throughout our facilities. More details will be announced once the program is launched.

  • "We are UC" board: Everyone has a connection to the UC system, whether you attended a UC campus, have family ties, or simply visited one. The “We are UC” board invites staff to share that connection — post a photo of yourself, your family, or a UC memory to help celebrate the diverse ways we’re all linked to UC.

If you have a game you would like to recommend for the Community Center, please contact the Work Management Center.

Time Limits

There are no strict time limits, but please be considerate of others during peak use periods.

The community spaces belong to all of us. Please help us preserve their spirit and usefulness by treating the spaces — and everything in them — with care and respect. We’ve experienced occasional losses of shared items, so we kindly ask: if you didn’t bring it in, please don’t take it out.
