Cross-Campus Enrollment at UC

UC students can search for and enroll in online courses offered by other UC campuses through a central enrollment system. Options range from a UCLA course on air pollution, to a Santa Cruz calculus course that uses e-textbooks for problem sets, to a Spanish 2 course from Davis featuring guest speakers from abroad. All online courses earn UC unit credit, with the potential for GE, pre-major, or major credit depending on departmental and program requirements. The Cross-Campus Enrollment website provides course descriptions, syllabi, credit information, and more.

New API in the Cross-Campus Enrollment System

In the summer of 2025, UC Online implemented a new API in the Cross-Campus Enrollment System, making it available to all UC campuses. This feature is an important first step toward syncing with campus student portals, allowing enrolled guest students to manage their enrollments in a convenient self-service format.

Developed by UC Online in partnership with all UC campuses, the new API keeps systems in sync and removes bottlenecks in the grading process, reducing delays in grade delivery and enhancing the student experience when taking online courses hosted by other UC campuses.

The UC Online technical team worked closely with campuses to establish requirements, develop the core service with comprehensive testing and validation, and coordinate user acceptance testing. The rollout is continuing in phases, aligned with campus schedules, using feature flag–based deployment with rollback mechanisms to ensure a controlled release and immediate recovery if needed.
