Travel Registration and Insurance Services (TRIS)

TRIS is a UC Center of Excellence financed by the UC Office of Risk Services and hosted by the University of California Education Abroad Program (UCEAP). As the signature study abroad program in the University of California, UCEAP was the original repository for most of the travel insurance knowledge. UCEAP agreed to share this knowledge in support of campus study abroad efforts as well as other types of international travelers, including graduate students, research scholars, faculty, and staff. In acknowledgement that the university system is stronger when resources can be shared, UCEAP serves as the administrative home for TRIS while travelers across the UC system are beneficiaries.

TRIS expands access to travel insurance expertise and to information about the resources and services provided under the three University of California-contracted travel insurance policies. TRIS achieves this by developing tools, delivering training, and answering questions from clients including campus risk managers and leaders of international activities.

TRIS Goals for FY 2025-2026:

  • Promote the use of travel insurance provider resources and tools, including AXA My Trip Companion and the Crisis24 Horizon mobile app, Critical Trac, and products delivered by the UC-dedicated Crisis24 intelligence analyst.
  • Increase travel registration through UC Away for travel not purchased through UC’s Central Travel system ConnexUC or Concur.
  • Submit enhancement requests to travel systems, including UC Away and Crisis24 Horizon, to support improved usability and increased feature availability.
  • Improve accuracy of information about travel insurance and provider services on UC web pages, in policy and protocol documents, and in resources including pre-travel orientations and communications.
  • Improve the experience of individuals with diverse identities with travel insurance and related partners.
