Workers’ Compensation Program

Workers’ compensation (WC) benefits are available to University of California employees who are injured within the course and scope of their University employment. The University has a systemwide multi-faceted program that provides benefits to employees whether they are working in California, other states or abroad. The Office of Risk Services is responsible for the administration of the systemwide program which includes the following:

  • California injuries: Each UC location works in partnership with the University’s third party claims administrator, Sedgwick, to coordinate effective claim management. The goals are effective medical treatment and benefits administration in accordance with California workers' compensation laws and regulations.
  • All Other States injuries: The University provides insurance policies for workers' compensation benefits to employees who work permanently in states other than California. This policy does not provide benefits to employees who work in California and are injured while on business travel or on a temporary assignment in another state.
  • International Injuries: The University has coverage for UC employees when they are traveling abroad, temporarily assigned abroad, permanently assigned abroad or hired in a foreign country. Contact Angela DeBortoli or 510-987-0151.
