UC Benefit

You make a difference every day!

CalUsource 1st Anniversary

Created in 2015 during the systemwide P200 Initiative to account for savings and revenue generated by procurement transactions, the UC Benefit Program has evolved to support the SupplyChain500 initiative to reach $500M in annual benefits.

Since its inception, the UC Benefit program has achieved $1.5 billion in benefits across 11 locations. In FY2018-19 alone, our combined 11 locations have already achieved $298M in benefits!

As procurement professionals, your ongoing efforts to identify benefits delivers real value to the University. Your identification of savings in procurement activities contributes to moving UC Procurement into the role of a strategic partner and essential contributor to the overall financial health of the University.

In February 2019, the UC Benefit team initiated a six-month project to revitalize and upgrade the UC Benefit program. And, as more campuses move to a supply chain model, we are expanding benefit tracking to include benefits realized across the supply chain.

To assist in this effort, Campus Primary Representatives (CPRs) were recruited from each location to serve on the UC Benefit team and contribute expertise toward these goals:

  • Mature the benefit methodology by clarifying the definitions and making it easier to calculate benefit.
  • Update the benefit submission, approval and audit processes to provide a more timely and accurate view of benefits realized.
  • Gain user feedback on the Benefit Bank tool to more seamlessly integrate benefit tracking into daily work flow.

As a new member of the UC Benefit team, I’ve had the opportunity to meet procurement teams across the UC system. I’ve been inspired by these teams’ diligence in tracking benefits. In the coming months, the UC Benefit team will visit each campus to share the improvements in the UC Benefit definitions and processes, along with the upgraded Benefit Bank tool. I look forward to these visits so that we can further support you in reaching our SC500 benefit goals!
