UC/U.S. Bank Expanded Partnership Opens Opportunities!

uc-usbankpartnership.pngAs the University of California’s commercial card product and service provider for the past decade, and with a new contract spanning the entire University of California system, U.S. Bank has deepened its strategic partnership with UC through a new Expanded Partnership program. This expanded relationship will bring mutual benefit to UC and U.S. Bank in line with our shared values and UC's mission of teaching, research and public service.

These exciting new mission-aligned partnership opportunities include: paid student internships at U.S. Bank offices, paid on-campus student project opportunities and other campus sponsorship opportunities outlined in more detail below.

This year U.S. Bank placed three students in paid student internships throughout the country. U.S. Bank has committed to placing at least three UC students annually in their various internship programs nationwide.

The Student Engagement Fund awards projects that offer students an opportunity to work with staff and faculty on paid internship projects to improve UC’s procure-to-pay systems, processes or programs while providing a unique experiential education opportunity. These outstanding projects were selected in 2018:

  • UC Merced Procure-to-Pay (P2P) Implementation – This project establishes a paid student team to support UC Merced’s major initiative to update its procurement systems. The project will facilitate UC Merced’s adoption of an integrated and optimized Procure-to-Pay (P2P) model aligned with the "SupplyChain 500" (SC500) system-level initiative.
  • Student Talent Strategy at UC San Diego’s Integrated Procure-to-Pay Solutions (IPPS) – UCSD IPPS will develop and launch a program to manage UC San Diego student employees in a coordinated way that benefits IPPS and clients, and enhances the student experience. It will provide a path of progressive responsibility, opportunities to rotate among IPPS areas, and cross-functional projects that align with a student’s evolving academic and career goals.
  • UCSD Payment Compass – This project will utilize a student intern to support the onboarding of suppliers and payees to do business with the university using a new tool, Payment Compass, which helps payees sign-up for electronic invoice submission, virtual card payments, and also offers real-time payment status visibility.

The Partnership Fund awards marketing or other partnership opportunities with U.S. Bank that will bring benefit back to the university. In 2018, the following outstanding proposals were selected for sponsorship:

  • UC San Diego Black History Month 2019 – In line with U.S. Bank’s commitment to diversity and inclusion, this sponsorship will support UCSD campus programming and resources for next February’s Black History Month theme of “Black Migrations," and provide scholarships that recognize the academic and creative achievement of student research in the study of African American history and culture.
  • UC San Diego Triton 5K & Festival – U.S. Bank will highlight its commitment to the community and showcase its pillars of Work, Home and Play at the 23rd annual Triton 5K & Festival. Since 1996, the Triton 5K has raised more than $4 million in scholarships and benefited more than 1,000 motivated and talented UCSD students.
