Introducing Andrew Houston

OGC Attorney for Procurement Services

We are happy to welcome Andrew Houston who joined the Office of General Counsel as the new Procurement Services contracts attorney in July. Andrew is currently working alongside Kathleen Quenneville, who will be retiring mid-December. Prior to working at UC, Andrew was a Staff Attorney at the San Francisco Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) District Office of the General Counsel where he focused on public contracts involving construction, purchases, procurement and services.

Andrew is also the President of the Bay Area African-American Bar Association known as the Charles Houston (no relation) Bar Association (CHBA).  CHBA is an affiliate of the National Bar Association (NBA), which was founded in 1925 and is the nation's oldest and largest national network of predominantly African-American attorneys and judges. It represents the interests of approximately 65,000 lawyers, judges, law professors and law students.

Andrew was recently in Toronto, accepting two inaugural awards for his leadership with the NBA: the Brandes S.G. Ash and Toya Carmichael Leadership Award and Affiliate Chapter of the Year.

The Brandes S. G. Ash and Toya Carmichael Leadership Award honors a Young Lawyer Section/Division chair or NBA affiliate president who has exhibited exceptional leadership of their organization. The awardee must demonstrate a commitment to enhancing the public profile of the NBA, building strong programming in their local community, and improving their local affiliate chapter.

The Young Lawyer Division Section of the Year Award is given to a Young Lawyer Section/Division of a recognized National Bar Association (NBA) affiliate chapter who has worked tirelessly to empower their community, increase the public profile of their local chapter and the NBA, and strengthen participation of young lawyers.

Congratulations and welcome aboard Andrew!
