UC Sustainable Procurement News

  • To learn more about UC's focus on worker health and wellbeing during the COVID-19 pandemic, review this letter outlining UC's Commitment to Worker Health and Safety during the Pandemic that was sent to 300+ UC suppliers in February, 2021. UC is committed to driving improvement in the social and environmental performance of both management and operations across our supply base and collaborating with suppliers to improve the health and safety of our extended supply chains.
  • In August, 2020, the University of California system took a major step to protect the health of students and staff by being the first public university system in the nation to sign the Center for Environmental Health’s (CEH) Purchaser Pledge for healthier furniture. These standards restrict the use of five key toxic chemical classes in furniture, and will directly improve the health of the furniture that the UC system purchases as explained further in this article.

  • The University of California has won an Outstanding Case Study Award for work developing new "Sustainable Procurement Policy updates, quantitative metrics, governance structures and approval" from the Sustainable Purchasing Leadership Council.
