Suzanne Lipton

GFI Fellow - Class of 2020

Graduate student, environmental studies
UC Santa Cruz

DESCRIPTION

Suzanne will research fonio, a drought resistant and poor nutrient tolerant grain that is indigenous to the Sahel, and has the potential to promote food and economic security in the region. She is interested in whether different accessions of the grain have different capacities for drought tolerance and poor nutrient soils. As a GFI fellow, Suzanne will conduct a preliminary greenhouse project in collaboration with the Centre for Dryland Agriculture at Bayero University, Kano, Nigeria, which will provide pilot data for later field station and field based projects in Nigeria and the surrounding region.
