Clery Act Resources

Welcome to the University of California's central resource page for Clery Act compliance, education, and reporting. This site provides access to guidance, tools, and training to support all UC community members, including students, employees, administrators, and Campus Security Authorities (CSAs), in understanding and fulfilling their responsibilities under the Jeanne Clery Campus Safety Act, commonly known as the Clery Act.

About the Clery Act

The Clery Act is a federal law that promotes transparency around campus crime by prescribing various campus safety statutory and regulatory provisions. At a high level, it requires institutions of higher education to:

  • Issue timely warnings and emergency notifications
  • Develop and disclose emergency response and evacuation procedures
  • Conduct and publicize an emergency response and evacuation procedure test annually
  • Publish an Annual Fire Safety Report (AFSR), if applicable
  • Maintain a fire log, if applicable
  • Have missing student notification procedures, if applicable
  • Provide rights and options to victims of dating violence, domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking
  • Develop and implement prevention and awareness programming that addresses dating violence, domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking
  • Develop and implement disciplinary proceedings for reported acts of dating violence, domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking
  • Develop and implement hazing prevention programming
  • Prominently post a Campus Hazing Transparency Report (CHTR)
  • Disclose crime and fire statistics to the U.S. Department of Education, if applicable
  • Protect privacy and prohibit retaliation
