Systemwide Disability Rights Office
Systemwide UC Learning Center Course
Providing Reasonable Accommodations for Students with Disabilities
Faculty, academic appointees and student-facing staff are committed to supporting students with disabilities by providing the reasonable accommodations they need to participate in UC academic programs and co-curricular activities.
Because accommodation processes can be complex, time-sensitive, and highly individualized, the Systemwide Office of Civil Rights (SOCR) collaborated with Ethics, Compliance and Audit Services (ECAS) and Risk & Safety Training to develop a voluntary, quick and comprehensive online training course as a resource for faculty and staff.
The course includes guidance for:
- Recognizing requests from students with disabilities for academic and related accommodations
- Following procedures for appropriate referral to the campus location’s disability services office (DSO)
- Meeting accommodation implementation requirements
- Navigating concerns about accommodations and more
The course aims to strengthen collaboration between academic departments and disabilities services offices while clarifying accommodations processes.
