What is the title of the training?

Who should receive the training?

All faculty, academic appointees and related staff, location Civil Rights Office personnel, Disability Services Office (DSO) personnel, ADA/504 Compliance Officers and any other appointees or personnel who work with students in an academic or co-curricular setting.

This course is open to all UC employees. In addition to the groups listed above, leaders may review whether their team members assist in referral of students to DSOs to request academic accommodations and/or if they may be involved in facilitation of reasonable accommodations approved by a DSO for students with disabilities in academic or co-curricular programs.

What does the training content cover?

The course includes the following:

  • Recognizing requests from students with disabilities for academic and related accommodations
  • Following procedures for appropriate referral to the location’s DSO
  • Meeting accommodation implementation requirements
  • Navigating concerns about accommodations and more

Are campuses required to use and/or assign this training?

Campuses are not required to assign this training. However, the course is recommended for appointees and personnel listed in FAQ #2.

When should this course be taken?

It is recommended that faculty, academic appointees and related staff, location Civil Rights Office personnel, DSO personnel, ADA/504 Compliance Officers and any other appointees or personnel who work with students in an academic or co-curricular setting take this course at least once in Fall, 2026. New faculty, academic appointees and related staff as noted in FAQ #2 are recommended to take the course at least once soon after they begin employment at UC.

Who developed the training?

The Systemwide Office of Civil Rights (SOCR) collaborated with Ethics, Compliance and Audit Services (ECAS) and Risk & Safety Training to develop a voluntary, quick and comprehensive online training course as a resource for faculty and staff

How long is the training?

This course is an online, asynchronous modality that is estimated to take approximately 30 minutes to complete.  Audio playback of main course content is available.

How can the training be accessed?

The training can be accessed online via each campus’s UC Learning Community (UCLC) portal by searching the course title.

Is the course accessible for people with disabilities?

The University of California is committed to making training accessible for all users, including people with disabilities. We design with accessibility in mind and strive for continuous improvements. Can the training be customized with campus-specific information?

Due to the format of the course, it cannot be customized, but campuses are welcome to create separate supplemental materials for their own purposes.
