July 14 Cost Saving Opportunities in Construction

Until recently, University of California’s construction and renovation projects have been managed and processed without involvement from procurement or supply chain. With annual construction spend growing, the University of California is seeking to leverage existing procurement processes, resources, and contracts to manage system-wide construction spend and pursue cost savings. This past year, UC San Diego’s Strategic Procurement team hired a construction commodity manager who has been tasked with: identifying and pursuing cost-saving opportunities in construction and renovation projects; establishing collaborative strategies between internal stakeholders; and pursuing and promoting opportunities for sustainable construction techniques and value.
