Diversity and Engagement
Partnering with the community to raise student academic achievement
University-Community Engagement (UCE) supports UC campus-community collaborations that raise student achievement, close achievement gaps, and increase college-going rates among low-income and disadvantaged students.
UCE provides grants to UC campuses. These grants support campus efforts to build the capacity of community-based organizations to improve access to higher education in communities where academic preparation resources are limited.
Examples of current UC campus-community collaborative activity:
- building a sustainable train-the trainers model for delivering a community relevant curriculum about preparing for community college while in high school;
- training parents, teachers, and community volunteers as college mentors;
- enlisting parents as full partners in providing intensive mathematics instruction;
- promoting educational opportunities for foster care youth.
