Experience

Michelle Wong joined Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (Berkeley Lab) in 1998 as a Research Associate. In 2001, while attending law school, she joined Berkeley Lab’s Patent Group as an Intern / Patent Analyst, and then as a Patent Agent after passing the USPTO Patent Bar. She joined the California Bar as an attorney in 2004, and served as Patent Counsel for Berkeley Lab, preparing and prosecuting U.S. and foreign patent applications in the fields of biotechnology, nanotechnology, cancer diagnostics and polymers, as well as handling other intellectual property issues including reexamination and infringement matters, FOIA requests, copyright, and procurement. Since 2015, and as Senior Counsel at Berkeley Lab as of 2018, Ms. Wong advises on intellectual property and partnerships, data security and privacy, conflicts of interest, compliance, and all manner of general legal issues arising in research transactions, procurements and partnerships.
