​Ellen Auriti joined the Office of General Counsel in January of 2011. Ms. Auriti is a member of the Technology & Research group, with a practice that focuses primarily on providing legal and regulatory compliance advice in areas related to academic research.  Areas on which she advises include academic conflict of interest, animal and human subject protection, research integrity/misconduct, export control, cannabis research, stem cell research, Native American Graves Protection & Repatriation Act compliance, research administration, and legal restrictions related to on-campus ballot initiative/political advocacy.

Prior to joining the Office of General Counsel, Ms. Auriti served as the University's Executive Director of Research Policy Analysis and Coordination, directing a unit within UCOP’s Office of Research responsible for University-wide research policy development and for providing legislative, policy, and regulatory analysis and advice on rules governing the conduct of academic research. Prior to that, she was the Director of the University’s Academic Legislative Issues office.  Prior to joining the University, she practiced law as an associate in Morrison & Foerster's San Francisco office.

Education

Ms. Auriti received her undergraduate degree from Yale University (B.A., summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, 1987), and her law degree from the University of California, Berkeley (J.D., 1993).​
