PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Jacob’s research seeks to understand spatial and temporal variation in mangrove forest carbon stocks. Given that the current extent of these coastal forests is dependent upon modern sea levels, positive feedback loops between climate change driven sea level rise and the further loss of mangrove ecosystem carbon may exist. Jacob’s research seeks to integrate field data, remotely sensed datasets and spatial modeling to understand how these dynamics will play out over varying spatial and temporal scales. The outcomes of the research will be critical for global climate change mitigation efforts, as mangrove conservation is increasingly being considered within “blue carbon” offset programs.
