PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Christophe worked with his fellow UCLA Luskin graduate student Michelle Tirto on determining strategies for UCLA to continue progress towards its carbon neutrality goal--in particular how investments in carbon offsets projects can be made in more socially responsible and locally impactful ways. Offsets appear more likely as a significant means for UCLA of achieving carbon neutrality. This challenge should be met with creativity in how to best invest in offset projects, considering the institution’s educational and social mission. Michelle and I developed a policy reference document for our campus Chief Sustainability Officer on how to invest in carbon offsets accordingly, with a focus on criteria for determining “fair carbon” offsets.
