Greg Macway Named NAEP Communicator of the Year

UCSF’s Greg Macway recently was named the 2017 Neil D. Markee Communicator of the Year by the National Association of Educational Procurement (NAEP). The award recognizes outstanding contributions to the profession through the written or spoken word.

Macway, Supply Chain Management’s Director of Strategy and Strategic Program Management, writes the “Heard on the Street” column for NAEP’s Educational Procurement Journal and has served on the publication’s editorial board for three years. He also is current President of the NAEP Pacific Region, serving California, Nevada, Arizona, Hawaii and Alaska.

“Greg makes it a priority to work with others to achieve greater communication, idea and information sharing,” said the nomination letter submitted by NAEP staff. “He has contributed numerous articles to the Educational Procurement Journal and is a key player in helping to determine content, theme and messaging of each issue.”

“Personally, I benefit from the opportunity to experience the environments and cultures of procurement organizations across hundreds of college campuses right from my office,” said Macway.  “It allows me to bring a different perspectives and additional insight to challenges we face at UCSF and the UC as whole.”

And, Macway isn’t content with resting on his laurels either.

“In the next year, I’d like to increase the voice of procurement analysts at the national level. Non- buying roles are becoming more and more critical, data-driven decision models are influencing procurement strategies and procurement is transitioning from tactical to strategic,” he said. “By building a communication network to share ideas and highlighting successes, we can help campuses transition further, faster, and jump the innovation curve.”
