Crafts Group

The Crafts group is a collective of UCOP artisans who gather to share their expertise and unique crafts with coworkers. The Crafts group annual event occurs in early December, where both UCOP and external vendors sell their homemade goods in a Craft Fair in the lobby of the Franklin Building. This Fair allows UCOP employees to purchase a wide variety of crafts for their friends and families, and adds to the festivity and inclusiveness of the Holiday season. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, there will be no Craft Fair this year.

Sustainability Affinity Group

The Sustainability Affinity Group (SAG) started in July 2020 to create and promote a culture of sustainability at UCOP locations and focuses on UC Sustainable Practices Policy issue areas. Group members identify and initiate projects and programs to engage with UCOP staff on sustainability best practices and help meet systemwide policy goals in recycling, transportation, energy use, waste reduction, and climate protection. SAG serves as a forum to discuss and act on sustainability timely topics through the lens of diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Lakeside Speakeasy Toastmasters Club

The Lakeside Speakeasy Toastmasters Club is a professional and personal development focused club that provides communication and leadership training in a friendly and supportive environment. Established in 1988, the Lakeside Speakeasy Toastmasters Club #2967 under Toastmasters District #57 is based in Oakland and meets on Zoom weekly on Thursdays from 12:05 p.m. – 12:55 p.m. It is a community club open to all and often includes several members from UCOP. Join us virtually to build confidence in public speaking; sharpen your leadership abilities by learning how to facilitate meetings, enhance your listening skills, and provide constructive feedback; and practice thinking on your feet with impromptu speaking opportunities. If you’re interested in building your presentation skills, enhancing your presence and interactions in meetings, developing elevator-speech “sound bites” and/or practicing performance feedback, this is the group for you.

UCOP Shakespeare Club

The UCOP Shakespeare Club meets intermittently during lunch to do a cold reading of a Shakespeare play – aspiring to boil down all swashbuckling and soliloquizing to one hour. No preparation is necessary and members take turns choosing a play. The script is shared on Zoom and reading is done round robin, so you get a chance to assume multiple roles. If you are looking for a creative and therapeutic escape for an hour, this group is for you!
