Senior Counsel, Cybersecurity & Data Protection
Rainier Elias joined the Office of the General Counsel as Senior Counsel, Cybersecurity and Data Protection, in March, 2019 and primarily focuses on cybersecurity regulatory and transactional matters. Before joining OGC, Mr. Elias served as Program Manager, IT and Cybersecurity Policy at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. In this role, he advised chief information officers, chief information security officers, privacy officers and other technology professionals on cybersecurity, privacy, and information law and policy at national labs throughout the country who are responsible for overseeing classified and unclassified research and IT operations. Mr. Elias holds certifications in privacy and cybersecurity, including the CISSP, GSEC, and CIPP/US. He attended college and law school at the University of Idaho, where he majored in Theater Arts as an undergraduate and later served as Editor-in-Chief of the Critical Legal Studies Law Journal at the law school.
Mr. Elias is admitted to practice in the State of Washington and is not yet admitted to practice in the State of California.
