Biosafety Officers: Overview
The University of California Biosafety Officers Working Group serves as a forum for mutual assistance in biosafety by identifying resources, addressing issues, developing effective programs and sharing technical information.
- Act as an advisory panel to the EH&S Directors on biosafety issues.
- Review biosafety issues or concerns and make recommendations.
- Serve as a forum for exchange of professional ideas.
- Produce work products that improve effectiveness and reduce campus cost.
One Biosafety Officer will volunteer to serve a one-year term as Chair. One Biosafety Officer will volunteer to serve a one-year term as Vice-chair, who will preside if the Chair is unavailable, and who will serve as Chair the following year. One Biosafety Officer will volunteer to serve as Secretary.
There will be two meetings annually. One will be hosted by a UC campus or laboratory, ideally alternating between sites in the northern and southern parts of the state. The second meeting will be in conjunction with the annual conference of the American Biological Safety Association. There will be a teleconference held each month. Release of work products will be by voice vote assent at a meeting or during a teleconference.
