A work in
progress:
New
web site coming soon!
Founded
in 1868, the University of California is widely respected as the
best public university system in the world. Through its ten campuses,
three national laboratories, and hundreds of libraries, museums,
community programs and facilities, the UC system touches the lives
of millions of people throughout California, across the nation and
around the globe.
UC
researchers are pioneers in medicine, computers, biotech and agriculture.
Thousands of California jobs, billions of dollars in revenues and
countless everyday household items - from more plentiful fruits
and vegetables to new medicine to compact fluorescent bulbs - can
be traced back to UC discoveries.
Today,
the UC system is home to more than 174,000 students and 140,000
faculty and staff. A new systemwide web site, coming later this
year, will help tell the story of these people, their role in fulfilling
UC's mission of teaching, research and public service, and the university's
involvement in every aspect of California's diverse and vibrant
communities.
