Frequently Asked Questions on the Use of the University Name and Other Trademarks

a. I'm a member of the Associated Students Council. Can I take pictures on campus and use them in a campus publication?

Yes, but you must obtain permission from the campus for current and future uses. If the pictures depict recognizable individuals, you must also obtain their permission before using the images. Questions on obtaining permission may be directed to the campus Public Affairs office and/or the Chancellor's designee.

b. I'm a newspaper reporter. Can I take pictures on campus?

Only after obtaining official permission. See the Media Contacts listings.

c. I'm a staff member in the Office of the President, and I want to use a picture of one of the UC campus dining facilities in a flyer promoting a national student housing conference. Do I need to get permission?

To be assured that your use is legally permitted, you should obtain permission from the campus or from the image's copyright holder. You must also obtain permission from individuals portrayed in the picture, if they are identifiable. See the Table for names of campus or Office of the President contacts.
