II. University Of California Letterhead and Business Cards
Official letterhead and
business cards are used to communicate with persons or entities
"outside" the University. Official letterhead carries
the University Seal along with a banner listing the locations of
all University of California campuses. University entities should
use the official letterhead to communicate with governmental entities
and members of the public, and for circumstances in which the content
of the letter represents an official position of the University.
Members of the University community who use official letterhead
may not express their personal opinions unless they are identified
as such. The University Seal should be the single design element
on any correspondence related to the academic and research missions.
The Chancellor must approve all additional campus letterhead designs.
Business cards must incorporate
the University Seal in compliance with guidelines regarding the
Seal (See Part I). The Chancellor may
approve use of additional graphics on a University business card,
such as the special logo of a campus entity or the logo of an entity
which has a special relationship related to the mission of the University.
An example of a special relationship which might be so recognized
is an outreach program in which designated individuals serve both
the University and a particular school district. Another example
might be a joint degree granting program co-sponsored by the University
of California and another educational institution.
Alumni associations and
other affiliated groups are not authorized to use the University
Seal. Exceptions may only be granted by the Chancellor or designee.
