CHANCELLORS
VICE PRESIDENTS
Dear Colleagues:
Attached is a letter from Dean Lyman W. Porter, Chairman of the Staff Personnel Board, recommending that staff employees be appointed along with faculty and students to appropriate University committees. I, of course, agree that staff employees should be included on all those University committees where the perspective of staff employees is appropriate to the work of the committees.
I am sure that you will similarly include staff on those committees dealing with matters in which the staff perspective is useful.
Sincerely,
David S. Saxon
President

PRESIDENT CHARLES J. HITCH
Dear President Hitch:
The Staff Personnel Board has been receiving many comments from staff employees about the composition of University committees and about their desires to be a more officially recognized part of the University. When committees are designed to include the contributions of faculty and students, the Board agrees that staff, too, should be represented since they play important roles on our campuses. Their participation in University governance should be sought and welcomed.
We recommend that the President include staff representatives on relevant University committees and also encourage Chancellors to include them on appropriate campus committees. We believe the perspective of staff members will be valuable to you and to your efforts to effect better communication and relations among all segments of the University community.
Sincerely,
Lyman W. Porter
Chairman
