CHANCELLORS
LABORATORY DIRECTORS
VICE PRESIDENT--AGRICULTURE AND NATURAL RESOURCES
Dear Colleagues:
The enclosed University of California Guidelines for Academic and Staff Affirmative Action Compliance Programs for Minorities and Women, Individuals with Disabilities, and Covered Veterans have been revised: (1) to add "genetic characteristics" as a basis for nondiscrimination with regard to medical condition, to conform with an amendment to the California Fair Employment and Housing Act and with University policy; and (2) to add a new group of veterans (veterans who served on active duty in a war or in a campaign or expedition for which a campaign badge has been authorized) who are now covered by nondiscrimination and affirmative action requirements, to conform with an amendment to the Vietnam Era Veterans Readjustment Assistance Act.
The guidelines supersede those issued February 13, 1997, and are effective immediately.
Sincerely,
| C. Judson King Provost and Senior Vice President-- Academic Affairs |
V. Wayne Kennedy Senior Vice President-- Business and Finance |
