Revision of Selected Personnel Policies for Staff Members

Enclosed are revisions to certain Personnel Policies for Staff Members. These revisions are effective March 1, 2002.

These revisions reflect changes which were proposed by a systemwide Personnel Policy Work Group and have been reviewed by all locations. In particular, the policy revisions include:

• the addition of curtailment leave to Staff Policy 43, to address curtailment of University operations during periods such as holiday closures;

• the addition of a severance pay option to Staff Policy 60 as an alternative to granting preference for re-employment and the right to recall following layoff;

• the addition of statutory requirements for records retention for police personnel to Staff Policy 62; and

• revision of the trial employment provisions of Staff Policy 81 to provide consistency with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission's 1999 enforcement guidance pertaining to reasonable accommodation under the Americans with Disabilities Act.

The new policies are effective immediately and will be available soon on the Human Resources and Benefits website at www.ucop.edu/humres/policies.
