PRINCIPAL OFFICERS OF THE REGENTS
CHAIR, ACADEMIC COUNCIL
Dear Colleagues:
I am pleased to announce that the University of California proposes to add November 11, Veterans Day, as an annual official University holiday beginning in November 2000. I anticipate that UC employees and the unions that represent some of them will embrace the addition of this holiday to our current list of twelve official University holidays. In keeping with the State's observance of the holiday, when November 11 falls on a Saturday, the preceding Friday will be observed, and when the date falls on a Sunday, the following Monday will be observed.
Please note that the addition of Veterans Day as a University holiday is subject to negotiations with the unions of our exclusively represented employees. I am hopeful those negotiations will be quickly concluded.
Sincerely,
Richard C. Atkinson
President
