CHANCELLORS
LABORATORY DIRECTORS
VICE PRESIDENT--AGRICULTURE AND NATURAL RESOURCES

Dear Colleagues:

New Academic Personnel Policy 137 and Revised Academic Personnel Policies 140, 145, and 150 Regarding Non-Senate Academic Appointees

Enclosed are the following Academic Personnel Policies, effective immediately:

• APM - 137, Non-Senate Academic Appointees/Term Appointment
• APM - 140, Non-Senate Academic Appointees/Grievances
• APM - 145, Non-Senate Academic Appointees/Layoff and Involuntary Reduction in Time
• APM - 150, Non-Senate Academic Appointees/Corrective Action and Dismissal.

These policies were developed by a systemwide work group and have been reviewed by campuses, the Academic Senate, the Office of the General Counsel, employee organizations, and affected employees.

Academic Personnel Policy 137 is a new policy that defines and articulates conditions of employment for non-Senate academic appointees with term appointments, except for those covered by a Memorandum of Understanding. It sets forth standards and due process procedures that govern the non-reappointment of members in this group.

Revised Academic Personnel Policies 140, 145, and 150 apply to non-Senate academic appointees, who are not covered by a Memorandum of Understanding. These supersede existing policies. Revisions to Academic Personnel Policy 140 provide for a clearer and more timely grievance process. Revisions to Academic Personnel Policy 145 set good cause standards for instituting layoff and involuntary reduction in time, and clarify procedures for grieving layoff decisions. Revisions to Academic Personnel Policy 150 clarify good cause standards and procedures for instituting corrective action or dismissal.

The Academic Personnel Policies will be found online at:
