Over a four day period, the Institute will explore:
- Business Officer's role at the University of California
- Operating principles, policies, and expectations for local practice
- Communicate expectations for business conduct across all locations
BOI curriculum is organized into core modules:
- Budget
- The Control Environment
- Financial Management
- Human Resources
- Information Technology
- Risk Management
- Sponsored Projects
Business Officers attending this program will have the opportunity to:
- Increase understanding of UC strategic directions and issues
- Enhance problem-solving skills related to the Business Officer's unique role
- Enhance decision-making skills using a broad framework of planning, internal controls, risk management and ethical perspectives
- Share best practices
- Meet and network with Business Officers throughout UC
- Dialogue with University senior management
The next BOI:
The next BOI will be held June 2-5, 2008 at the Hyatt Regency Newport Beach. The program begins at 4:00 p.m. on Monday and ends at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
Costs:
The Office of the President covers most of the cost of the Institute, including guest rooms, the first night's dinner, and all breakfasts and lunches for all participants. The participants' locations are expected to cover the costs of travel and dinners on the other nights. To help defray travel costs, sessions will be offered, alternately, in Northern and Southern California.
Presenters and Staff:
The Institute's presenters include University senior leaders and/or outside speakers. Program Coordinators, who also serve as facilitators, have all attended past BOI sessions.
