Joyce Justus
currently serves as Interim Vice Provost, Education Relations and Student Affairs. In her Educational Relations role, she works with California State University, the California Community Colleges, AICCU and K-12 to advance University contributions to the state s educational enterprise, including collective efforts to provide a highly educated workforce. In her Student Affairs role, she oversees several systemwide student service functions aimed at improving access and participation of California's diverse population. Justus began her UC career as a professor of anthropology at UC San Diego and later served as chair of the Education Department and special assistant to the chancellor at UC Santa Cruz, 1996-2003. She has more than 20 years of service in Academic Affairs at the Office of the President in a variety of roles. She left UC briefly during the Clinton Administration to serve as Assistant Director of Social Science and Education. Justus holds a Ph.D. in anthropology from UCLA and a certificate in higher education administration from Harvard University.
