  2. Participants should apply prior to their junior year and/or should be on track to receive the baccalaureate degree at the conclusion of the second year of the UC LEADS program.
  3. Participants must be citizens or permanent residents of the United States.
  4. Successful applicants must also demonstrate:
    1. Experiences, situations or conditions that have impacted their advancement in a STEM field of study, such as the absence of a role model in STEM; absence of a family member who received a four-year college degree; or graduation from a high school with poor financial or curricular support; and
    2. A commitment to and a strong potential for success in graduate school.
  5. Campuses should actively encourage applications from individuals who are underrepresented in the graduate student and faculty populations in STEM fields of study. These groups include African Americans, American Indians, Filipino Americans, Chicano/Latinos, and women in selected fields. However, in accordance with state law, preference in selection may not be given to applicants on the basis of race, color, gender, or national origin.
  6. Campuses should actively encourage applications from participants in pre-collegiate or collegiate diversity programs such as Early Academic Outreach Program (EAOP); Upward Bound; Mathematics Engineering Science Achievement (MESA); or the California Alliance for Minority Participation in Science, Engineering and Mathematics (CAMP).

Next, contact your individual UC campus coordinator for an application, and submit it by the campus deadline.
