Sustainable Transportation

Background

At their July 2004 meeting, The Regents accepted the recommendation (RE-48) of Matt Murray, Student Regent 2003-04, to develop a systemwide Sustainable Transportation Policy.

In October 2004, two student interns started work at UC Office of the President under the Senior Vice President of Business and Finance. The interns visited all of the UC campuses and collected data pertaining to sustainable transportation.

In September 2005, an update on the sustainable transportation initiative was presented to the Regents Grounds and Building Committee.

In January 2006, the Presidential policy on Sustainable Transportation was presented to the Regents Grounds and Building committee and formally made a part of the University of California Policy on Green Building Design, Clean Energy Standards and Sustainable Transportation Practices.

In March 2007 the policy was expanded to include additional topics and it was renamed the Policy on Sustainable Practices.
