Advocacy
The University of California Office of State Governmental Relations is the state legislative advocacy unit of the University. The office identifies and tracks legislation of importance to the University and testifies at hearings before the State Legislature. Representatives of the office also work to advance understanding of the University, its tripartite mission and its achievements.
Working with campus governmental relations professionals and faculty and staff, the Office of State Governmental Relations mobilizes advocates to support legislative activities in Sacramento. Advocacy days are held in Sacramento throughout the year and are organized around specific issues including the State budget, legislation, and bond initiatives. The largest advocacy event is the annual Alumni Associations of the University of California (AAUC) UC Day where over 300 alumni converge on the Capitol to tell the UC story. Additionally, campuses partner with leaders in fields including business, research, agriculture and technology, among others, to highlight UC’s many contributions to the state, nation and the world.
