A Message from President Dynes

The March 2006 Senior Leadership Forum on Talent Development and succession management marks the launch of an important campaign to find, nurture, and retain the next generation of the University’s leaders. This institution-wide effort will seek to strengthen future UC management by developing the leadership skills of current University employees who have demonstrated talent and potential.

I believe this endeavor will build on the University’s 138-year tradition of wise stewardship, and I am confident that our current management team will share my commitment to the success of this program.  I have called upon our leaders to join with me in creating an innovative talent development and succession management program that will be implemented across the University. At the Senior Leadership Forum in March, we will begin crafting strategies to carry out this campaign in accordance with these principles:

  • Developing talent at all levels of our organization is critical to our future success.
  • The University’s people are its greatest asset.
  • We are committed to increasing the numbers of minorities and women in UC leadership ranks.
  • Our strengths as a university system – our size and our breadth – create opportunities for greater collaboration and for innovative practices.
  • Establishing robust systems and processes for talent development and succession management will help ensure that public investment in the University reaps large dividends.

I have enormous optimism in our collective wisdom and our institutional ability to generate new ideas. The success of this campaign will depend on both. I am eager to work with the entire University community on this important issue, and I look forward to implementing this framework for continued vigorous leadership.

Sincerely,

Bob Dynes
