Narrator: This is Science Today. The UCLA Cousins Center for Psychoneuroimmunlogy brings together researchers in a whole variety of disciplines, including, as the name suggests, psychologists and psychiatrists as well as neuroscientists and immunologists. Psychiatrist Mary-Frances O'Connor is a member of this unique center.
O'Connor: The idea is to really bring a scientific eye to mind-body interventions and research and to understand the mechanisms that allow what we are experiencing psychologically to impact our physiology - our nervous system and our immune system. In contrast, what is it about inflammation and illness that impacts our emotional life? So, this is a way to bring together a lot of people and resources to really get answers to questions that the public have about mind-body medicine.
Narrator: For Science Today, I'm Larissa Branin.
