ERM Resources

Overview

Tackling an ERM program can be a daunting task, and though there is a multitude of information available on the Web, it is difficult to know where to start. To help facilitate this process, we have compiled some helpful resources and organized them as follows:

Contact the ERM Help Desk

This section provides information on the services provided by the help desk and how to contact the help desk for assistance.

What is ERM?

This section includes an overview of ERM, and a discussion as to why ERM is important and relevant to the higher education community.

How do I get started?

The section includes an ERM Program Start-up Kit, and includes guidance on how to establish your ERM group (panel / committee), provides worksheets, and charter and workplan templates. This section also includes a list of things you should consider when identifying people to participate on your ERM Committee.

Objective Setting

This section provides guidelines for defining objectives in preparation for conducting ERM assessments.  The relationship of objectives to strategic vision and mission is explained with references to campus/location strategic plans.  The Balanced Scorecard is described as a framework for defining objectives and “Next Steps” are suggested for leveraging the ERM Program to ensure success.

Tools and Templates

This section is a central resource for miscellaneous tools and templates. Examples include sample strategic plans, risk assessments, risk ranking tools, and an ERM assessment case study.

ERM at UC

This section provides information on what other campuses are doing with their ERM programs, and also provides a link to the ERM Bulletins and Webinars that have been conducted during the implementation of the UC's ERM program.

Other Miscellaneous Resources

As mentioned above, there are copious amounts of resources available on the internet. This section identifies some pertinent external agencies that are also good resources for ERM related materials, and provides a selection of relevant articles and publications related to ERM.

Our plan is to keep adding to the ERM tool box. If you have ideas to share please . Also, we recommend the book Enterprise Risk Management for Dummies – which is for really smart people who know that it is better to take risks and manage them well rather than just letting stuff happen.
