Subject: Delegation of Authority to Director Sweet
This letter transmits an August 23, 1985 delegation of authority from President Gardner to Director of Federal Governmental Relations Sweet to accept or to execute certain extramural grants and contracts. The delegation authorizes Director Sweet to sign such documents during the period September 1-30, 1985 and for the same period annually thereafter. Please note that Director Sweet is authorized to take action only upon request of a Chancellor or other campus personnel holding contract and grant authority.
Campus should make the required logistical arrangements for their individual award executions directly with Director Sweet's office:

Delegation of Authority--To Accept or Execute Certain Extramural Grants and Contracts
Authority is hereby delegated to you in your capacity as Director - Federal Governmental Relations to accept or to execute certain extramural grants and contracts, including the signing of related documents as necessary, pursuant to the authority granted to the President under Section 100.4(dd) of the Standing Orders of The Regents, except (a) those grants, contracts, or related documents containing provisions within the restrictions and limitations set forth in said Standing Order, and (b) those grants, contracts, or related documents containing provisions at variance with the University of California Contract and Grant Manual.
This authority is effective September 1 - 30, 1985 and for the same period annually thereafter as long as you hold your current responsibilities. The authority is to be exercised only in response to a specific request made to you by a Chancellor or other authorized campus representative; the authority may not be redelegated.
