Sustainability
The University of California is committed to sustainable purchasing practices. In our efforts to request and purchase the most energy efficient and least waste-producing products that meet our needs, we rely on the expertise of our office of Sustainability.
Sustainability requirements are included in all university-wide RFPs and will be different for different commodities. These requirements may include criteria for:
- Energy Efficiency (such as ENERGY STARŪ designations)
- Energy Conservation
- Waste Reduction
- Packaging Reduction
- Trade-ins/Retrievals/Refurbishment of Used Products
- Use of Recycled and Recyclable Material (Products, Packaging, Shipping Materials)
- Responsible Shipping and Transportation Usage
- Reduced Water Usage
- Reduced Paper Usage (including e-procurement, e-payment)
