Celebrating P200 as One UC Procurement

On August 31st, UC Procurement Services celebrated achieving our P200 goal of reaching over $200 million in annual benefit. Simultaneous events in locations across the state were held between 12 and 4pm. To remind us of our “One UC Procurement” unity, each location was sent a link to a kick-off video featuring a message from Bill Cooper, and accomplishments and fun tidbits of each campus. Everyone was also given a canvas cooler with the UC and P200 logo as a token of appreciation. Throughout the day, teams shared their photos on the Cluster application to capture the fun at their perspective events. Here’s more about the diverse activities enjoyed at the various locations.

San Diego

The team at UC San Diego enjoyed the afternoon at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography’s Birch Aquarium. Their ‘field trip’ opened with lunch and a few words to acknowledge the amazing P200 accomplishments of the Strategic Procurement, Surplus Sales, and Tax Advisory Services teams. Once inside the Aquarium, everyone explored the different exhibits, including a feeding at the interactive tide pools and one memorable feature on how male seahorses give birth! And best yet, we can all enjoy a virtual visit to the Aquarium any time, via the Kelp Cam. The team had a great day. Thank you UC Procurement Services!

Irvine

Over 20 employees from UCI’s Purchasing and Risk Services department stepped away from their computers, gathered in an Anteater bus and headed to Irvine Lanes. Staff enjoyed watching the kick-off video together in a reserved room. This was a great way to view accomplishments, educate newer employees on what led up to this event, set the tone for the future, and gain insight to sister campuses. Attendees feasted on a hot buffet of chicken and beef, and burned off their meal with three rounds of bowling! Great Food + Bowling = One Priceless Afternoon of Team Bonding!

Santa Cruz

UC Santa Cruz Procurement Services celebrated the success of P200 by enjoying an afternoon of catered Hawaiian food, a leisurely stroll to Natural Bridges State Beach, and then a return to the office for chocolate macadamia nut brownies with vanilla ice cream. We invited everyone to wear their favorite beach or Hawaiian attire for this celebratory event. In true Santa Cruz party style we did not disappoint- just look at our photos! Aloha!

Riverside

Procurement staff in Riverside kicked off their celebration watching the video at the UC Path/Intellicenter conference room, then headed to the local bowling alley for pizza and bowling. Despite the difficulty pulling people away from work, the day proved to be a much enjoyed and needed afternoon of team building.

Davis

Our Davis team rented vans and headed north to enjoy a sit-down lunch at the Rio City Cafe by the Sacramento River in Old Town. The café customized a menu for our group which featured jambalaya, crab melts, steak chimichurri, chicken penne pasta, crab and shrimp Louie salad followed by brownie sundaes. We all appreciated having an afternoon out of the office with lively conversation on a beautiful day.

Santa Barbara

After an introduction by our PLC member and watching the kick-off video together, UCSB headed over to the Santa Barbara Zoo. We had lunch and then broke into teams for a scavenger hunt. The UCSB team enjoyed the opportunity to be off-site and get to know our co-workers better by collaborating on a fun mission.

Los Angeles

The Los Angeles P200 celebration embraced a sports theme, held at the UCLA Athletics Hall of Fame which includes the John Wooden Den, a fan appreciation exhibition and Olympic heritage and Hall of Champion displays. The day started with a presentation from the Campus Architect, who took us on a journey of the campus transformation from 1919 through present day. After a delicious lunch, we ended the day with a fun, competitive sports trivia challenge.

Merced

Our team kicked off the celebration enjoying lunch and the video in our conference room. We then strolled over to Cold Stone Creamery for dessert. Then it was off to the pool hall to determine the secret pool shark! Little did we know how much some of us would find a new love in shuffleboard.  It was a great way for our team to build morale, and also send off our dear Cindi Deegan, Executive Director of Business Services and PLC member, into retirement after 33 years of UC service.

Berkeley, SF and Oakland

Procurement and Supply Chain teams from Berkeley, SF and Oakland combined their celebration for an afternoon of pizza and bowling. Staff enjoyed watching the video beforehand and then met together at Albany Bowl starting with a feast of tasty pizza, veggie and fruit platters and delicious homemade desserts (including s’more cupcakes) made by our very own, Carol Tady. Everyone enjoyed meeting local co-workers face-to-face, many for the very first time. But even more fun was disco bowling to Michael Jackson, Salt N Peppa and Stevie Wonder under laser lights!
