Sponsor's Corner

June 2017

I recently returned from London to represent the University of California at the World Procurement Congress and 11th annual World Procurement Awards ceremony, sponsored by Procurement Leaders. It was an honor to be short-listed for the second year in a row, last year in the Public Sector category, and this year in the Cross-Functional Transformation category which included industry-wide nominees. While we didn’t bring home the gold, (Citrix Systems won), rising to the cream of the crop out of nearly 400 world-wide submissions representing 39 countries, is an accomplishment for which UC Procurement Services should be proud.

Further acknowledging the success of our transformation, Procurement Leaders, the world’s most valued professional procurement network, selected our P200 program to be featured in a three-part case study on their website. The first part of the series will be available this week and can be found here.

And the recognition doesn’t stop there. You will notice this issue contains other stories of awards earned by UC individuals and programs. Our ultra-low freezer promotional campaign won an award for its contributions toward reaching UC’s 2025 carbon neutrality goal; and Greg Macway was recognized by National Association of Educational Procurement (NAEP) for his written contributions highlighting procurement activities, bringing UC Procurement to the center stage.  And, of course, there’s the 2017 Starlight Awards, our internal Procurement recognition program, which rewards campus and systemwide Procurement staff for their significant accomplishments. We congratulate the winners and nominees who’ve made strides in advancing UC Procurement’s core mission.

We often talk about Procurement’s value as the benefits we gain from consolidated spend, process improvements or system integration; this fails to recognize the most important component: our employees. We attribute the successes of UC Procurement Services to three components: people, process and technology. The Starlight Awards program promotes our vision of being regarded as high-performing strategic partners while investing in the development of our team. We are proud of our award winners, our nominees, and all the incredible UC Procurement staff.

We dedicate this issue to the people of UC Procurement whose work is highly valued, appreciated and respected.
