UC San Diego: Waste not, want not

UC San Diego is working toward fulfilling its 2020 sustainability goals by introducing innovative ways to save costs while reducing waste. By leveraging the existing systemwide agreement with WAXIE, the campus will be implementing uniform bathroom accessories. The team, consisting of members from Facilities Design & Construction, Facilities Management, and Integrated Procure-to-Pay Solutions (IPPS), has implemented building design specifications that will include the installation of low-waste bathroom accessories in new and renovated buildings on campus. WAXIE will provide these low-waste bathroom accessories at no cost to the university which will meet ADA requirements, improve the University’s environmental impact and increase savings.

Another way UC San Diego is working toward fulfilling its sustainability goals is through IPPS Surplus Sales, which serves as an outlet to reutilize, liquidate, recycle and dispose of excess university property. IPPS recently added a catalog in its eProcurement system, Jaggaer (formerly SciQuest), to highlight its Surplus Sales offerings.

When someone searches for an item in the catalog and Surplus Sales has a comparable offering, it will appear in the results with both a description and picture. The campus client can then contact Surplus Sales to discuss pricing. The catalog, which is managed by the IPPS Surplus Sales unit, features only a portion of the Surplus Sales inventory. The rest can be accessed from the Surplus Sales website and by visiting the warehouse, which is open to the public.
