Summit on Faculty Gender Equity
A small group of senior women faculty at the University of
California convened November 6-7, 2002, to discuss issues
related to gender equity for faculty and present recommendations
for addressing these issues.
Institute
for Labor and Employment
The ILE was established in July 2000 by an act of the California
legislature. This new multi-campus research program is devoted
to studying, and finding solutions for, labor problems and
workplace issues in California and the nation.
UCTV
Launched in January 2000, the University of Californias
public interest television channel is capable of reaching
more than 3 million viewers seven days a week with broadcasts
featuring faculty lectures, interviews, research symposia,
distinguished speakers, and artistic performances. UCTVs
current program schedule is available at www.uctv.tv.
State Advisory Group on Low-level
Radioactive Waste Disposal
President Richard C. Atkinson announced in October 1999 the
appointment of a state Advisory Group on Low-Level Radioactive
Waste Disposal,
to make recommendations to Governor Davis on alternatives
for disposal of low-level radioactive waste. Please

Task Force on
Pierce's Disease
In October 1999, President Richard C. Atkinson established
the UC Pierce's Disease Research and Emergency Response Task
Force to mobilize the scientific, technical, and information
outreach expertise of the University in helping to control
the disease's threat to California's wine and grape industries.
The task force issued its report
in April 2000.
Task Force on
Minority Medical School Enrollment
President Richard C. Atkinson has informed the Board of Regents
about fall
1999 admissions and enrollment data and his plan to appoint
a task force to examine the issue of underrepresented minority
enrollment in the University's five medical schools.
Affirmative
Action Guidelines for Recruitment and Retention of Faculty
The April 26, 1999 guidelines issued to the Chancellors that
outline the University's affirmative action obligations as
a federal contractor as they apply to faculty recruitment,
promotion, and retention procedures.

Digital Library
Created in 1997 with the help of the latest technology, the
CDL is a collaborative library through which the University
is leveraging its collective investments in scholarly content,
technology, and human resources to meet challenges of the
digital age and to address the burgeoning quantity of scholarly
publication. This library without walls has as its primary
goal using innovative and cost-effective means to achieve
comprehensive access to scholarly and scientific communication.

University
of California: Approaching the 21st Century
This paper presents an analysis of issues in higher education
in California and suggests some approaches to those issues
that conform to the University's basic missions of teaching,
research, and service. The resulting product, emanating from
many discussions around the University, will serve as a continuing
guide to decision makers. In addition, it is expected that
the strategies included here will add another spark to the
discussions that have been occurring within the higher education
community in California and around the nation.
